Message from the Chair
Here is a message sent out by our Chair, Irit Hartman, last week prior to our Nov 16 council meeting. My apologies for posting it so late. -Catharine
DEAR CLAIRLEA FAMILIES…
We
have had a very successful couple of months with respect to fundraising and we
have you to thank. If it were not for the volunteers giving of their time
and working behind the scenes as well as the countless donations and
contributions from people along with all the students, Clairlea families,
Clairlea Staff and Community that support the fundraisers by purchasing,
participating and contributing we would not have the successes we’ve had.
Thank you to all!
HERE’S
HOW WE ARE DOING SO FAR….
HALLOWEEN HOWL 2016 – Thank you to all the
families that came to the event. We
had over 380 kids come through the doors, many with maps in hand! We
raised over $4000.00 in gross revenue and estimate approximately $3000.00 in
net profits that will go towards the Clairlea literacy project. We could
not have done this if it were not for the generosity of the many volunteers and
contributors in the Clairlea community. We received lots of spider
webs in the drop off bin in front of the office, about 500 candy bags and
countless lollipops for the lollipop pull. Many families came to help setup
along with a dedicated group of high school students from the community, some
of which were Clairlea alumni! Clairlea grade 7 and 8 students worked
diligently to prepare the windows in the library to ensure a scary dark
environment for the haunted library. The fantastic signs for each room
were made by our own Clairlea students. Thank you to all the volunteers
that worked tirelessly in a room during the event or were runners to ensure
that everything ran smoothly. We thank the Clairlea Admin for
their tireless efforts and support. We hope you enjoyed your
experience! All Looney Toss and candy guess jar winners have been
contacted.
SO
WHAT’S NEXT…?
MOVIE

there! This event is open to children in grade 6 and under. (See flyer.)

Message from the Chair
Dear Clairlea Families….
The Clairlea Funfair is less than a month away! We hope to see everyone there on Thursday
June 16th from 5:30-8:30pm. Bring your
neighbours, friends and family all are welcome.
All revenue earned from the Clairlea Funfair will go towards purchasing
outdoor sports equipment for Clairlea grades JK to grade 8. Please see below how you can help to make the
Funfair a Success. Email us at
Clairleacouncil@gmail.com.
How Can You Help Make the Clairlea Funfair a Success?
- Make a cake or 2 and donate them to the Cake Walk Room, email clairleacouncil@gmail.com.

- Donate a basket or items we can include in a basket to be raffled off at the funfair, email clairleacouncil@gmail.com
- Make a cash donation to sponsor part of the Clairlea Funfair, email Clairleacouncil@gmail.com

the FunFair this year. Some items

Slide, NEW Super Hero Room, Sno Cones, Delicious BBQ (HALAL), Henna, Face
Painting, NEW Bungee Run, Fire Truck, Bouncy Castle, Clairlea Vendor Market,
Lollipop Pull, Candy Guess, Mounted Police, and much, much more…..
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!!
MISC…
Thank you to all families that donated items/money to go
towards the raffle baskets for the school concert last week. Unfortunately we didn’t receive enough to
support the creation of a basket by the deadline so we decided to hold over the
donations and they will be used to create baskets for the Clairlea Funfair.
Clairlea Spirit Wear…
All Clairlea Spirit Wear has been distributed with the
exception of a few items that will be coming in the next week. We experienced a delay in the process because
to ensure accuracy we fit each child individually to ensure that items ordered
were the correct size because exchanges are not an option. Once the child was fitted the parent was
contacted for approval. We received a
lot of feedback that parents were grateful for the size check and there were a
lot of changed sizes but it did lengthen the process to enable fitting hundreds
of garments. To ensure a speedy process
going forward a new plan has been devised for next year whereby there will be
specific fitting days allocated on evenings and weekends whereby if you plan to
order spirit wear you can come to the allocated fitting day(s) and place your
order. This will ensure a quick
turnaround going forward. Thank you for
your patience and we hope you enjoy your spirit wear.
Pizza Lunch…
Pizza Lunch has been a tremendous success twice a month for
the last three months. We will continue
to have pizza lunch the 2nd Wednesday and the last Wednesday for the month of
June.

WHAT'S COMING UP.....
PIZZA
LUNCH… (MONEY ORDER ENVELOPES ARE DUE THIS THURSDAY JANUARY 21ST)
Pizza lunch will take place on Wednesday January 27th. Please
note this is NOT when the pizza lunch envelope orders are due. Due to the
large volume of pizza that needs to be ordered for the school we need to place
the order a few days prior to the actual pizza lunch date. That means if
a child submits their order late there is a risk that your child may not
receive pizza because they would not have been part of the original
order. Please make an effort to submit your orders on time as per the
date on the envelope and not on the date of the actual pizza lunch, as well
please take a moment to carefully fill out the form. From time to time we
do receive orders with missing information. If there is information
lacking on your order we will default to 2 cheese slices and apple juice.
MOVIE NIGHT… (JANUARY 29TH)
Our first movie of 2016 is “HOME”. The movie will take place
in the gym on Friday January 29th at 7:00pm sharp. Entrance is
$2 per person (child or adult) and the movie is available to children grade six
and under. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Popcorn and drinks will be available for sale during the movie. We
encourage children to come in pajamas and bring blankets and pillows if they
like and get comfortable in the gym for a fun family night.
CLAIRLEA FUNFAIR…(COMING IN JUNE 2016) I know
it’s cold outside and it’s hard to imagine it but we have started to plan the
Clairlea Funfair. If you want to volunteer to be a part of this big event
and have ideas please email us at clairleacouncil@gmail.com.
What do you think we should do with the funds raised from this years
Funfair?
CLAIRLEA SPIRIT WEAR….(coming in
February 2016) Stay tuned for the order forms coming out in
February. New exciting items coming.

Message from the Chair
Most of you will have received this via email directly from Irit, but just in case:
DEAR CLAIRLEA FAMILIES…
We
have had a very successful couple of months with respect to fundraising and we
have you to thank. If it were not for the volunteers giving of their time
and working behind the scenes as well as the countless donations and
contributions from people along with all the students, Clairlea families,
Clairlea Staff and Community that support the fundraisers by purchasing,
participating and contributing we would not have the successes we’ve had.
Thank you to all!
HERE’S
HOW WE ARE DOING SO FAR….
HALLOWEEN
HOWL – We surpassed last
year’s event. Thank you to all the families
that came to the event. We had approximately
370 kids come through the doors, many with maps in hand! We raised over
$3600.00 in net profits. We could not have done this if it were not for
the generosity of the many volunteers and contributors in the Clairlea
community. We received countless decorations dropped off in the
office, about 350 plus candy jars for the lollipop pull which raised
approximately $441.00, wonderful people sought out many prize donations which
were given for the Loonie Toss room raising approximately $500.00, as well as
the front door raffle, and a dedicated group of high school students from the
community, most of which were Clairlea alumni! Clairlea students worked
diligently to prepare the windows in the library to ensure a scary dark
environment for the haunted library. The fantastic signs for each room
were made by our own Clairlea students. Thank you to the local police
constables that dropped by and stayed for part of the evening to chat and
answer questions. Thank you to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly
in the rooms during the event. We thank the Clairlea staff for
trusting us with their classrooms. Also a big thank you to the
administration for their help, flexibility and endless eagerness to always move
forward in a positive direction. All Loonie Toss winners and candy count
jar winners have been contacted.
NORCARD WINTER
CATALOGUE ORDERS – Thank you to all of
you that placed orders for the Norcard Catalogue Fundraiser. The items
have arrived and have been sorted and given to your kids to bring home or you
received a call if the order was too big to carry. If you received a call
please pick up your order in the office this week. We managed to collect
over $5000.00 in product orders of which 50% ($2400+) of it goes to Clairlea.

From the chair
A message from the School Council chair, Irit Hartman:
Dear
Clairlea Families…
The school year is well underway and things are getting busy and we as
your school council are working hard to put forth a fun year! I’ve
outlined below some key dates coming up as well as where we could use your help
for the upcoming HALLOWEEN HOWL FUNDRAISER on Thursday October 30th!
Please have a look through and as always we want to hear your comments so
please contact us via clairleacouncil@gmail.com
Other places to look are; The School Council bulletin board located outside the
Main Office and the School Council Blog http://clairleacouncil.blogspot.com to
keep up to date of what is going on!

WHAT'S COMING UP.....
NORCARD AND STEEPED TEA CATALOG… (DUE
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 22nd) There are a few days left for our
Norcard and Steeped Tea fundraiser. This shopping calendar came home in
the backpacks a few weeks ago and you are able to order calendars, greeting cards, stationary items, jewelry,
tea and much more just in time for the holiday season. Items will arrive
approximately the first week of December 2014 (perhaps sooner). All money (cash or cheque) and order forms (with
completed legible contact information and order details) must be returned to
your classroom teacher no later than WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 22ND
2014. Cheques must be made payable to “Clairlea School
Council”. Late orders will not be accepted and will be returned back
to you.
PIZZA
LUNCH… (DUE FRIDAY OCTOBER 24th) The pizza lunch program is well under
way and we are coming up on our second pizza lunch installment which will take
place on Wednesday October 29th. Please note this is NOT when
the pizza lunch envelope orders are due. Due to the large volume of pizza
that needs to be ordered for the school we need to place the order a few days
prior to the actual pizza lunch date. That means if a child submits their
order late there is a risk that your child may not receive pizza because they
would not have been part of the original order. Please make an effort to
submit your orders on time as per the date on the envelope and not on the date
of the actual pizza lunch, as well please take a moment to carefully fill out
the form. From time to time we do receive orders with missing
information. If there is information lacking on your order we will
default to 2 cheese slices and water.
**This
month you would have received two pizza order envelopes. Please note
one of them is for the regular monthly pizza lunch and the other is if you want
to pre order a pizza dinner for the Halloween Howl fundraiser event on October
30th.
SPIRIT WEAR… (DUE WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 29th) You should have received a copy of the spirit wear order form. Extra copies are always in the office if you haven’t received
it. We have a quick turnaround time on the orders so that they can be
back in time for the holidays. All orders are due no later than
Wednesday October 29th. Late orders will not be accepted.
As in previous years we have sample sizes in the office that will be available
until October 29th, if you would like your child to try on a
specific item. Also you can email us at clairleacouncil@gmail.com if you want us to fit your child. We recommend
that you have your child fitted. Please ensure you complete all the
necessary areas on the form clearly. (See order form here).
HALLOWEEN HOWL…
(THURSDAY OCTOBER 30TH FROM 5:30-8:30PM) The team is
working hard putting together the upcoming Clairlea Halloween Howl
Fundraiser. Please save the date and bring the children out for a
spooky fun time on Thursday October 30th from
5:30-8:30pm. We encourage the children to dress up in their favourite
costume so that they can participate in the contest at the end of the
evening! We are an ECO Platinum School so we ask you to hang on to the
flyer/map that was sent home with all the details of the night and bring it
with you to the Howl to help navigate. (See map and station legend). Also
please bring your own loot bag/recycle bag to the Howl to enable the kids to
collect all their goodies. Entry is only $5.00/per child and we are
offering the option of a pizza dinner during the event but we need to know in
advance if you are having the dinner so we ensure there is enough. Make
things easier on yourself and leave the dinner to us and you just need to enjoy
the event and pick up your dinner in the gym anytime between 6:00-8:00pm on the
night. Hand in your Halloween Howl Pizza Order by Friday October 24th.
Help our fundraiser be a success! All funds raised from the Halloween
Howl will go towards “Experiential Learning” in your child’s class. This
will either be in the form of a class trip or an event brought in to your
child’s class. We need your help and I have listed below ways you can
help make the Halloween Howl a great success!
Halloween Howl Pre-order Dinner:
Cheese slice $2.00/ea.
Pepperoni slice $2.00/ea.
Water Bottle $1.00/ea.
Apple Juice Box $0.50/ea.
PARENTS YOUR HELP IS NEEDED PLEASE TO MAKE
THE HOWL A SUCCESS.....
1. DECORATION
DROP OFF: We need Halloween decorations to get the school ready
for the Halloween Howl!! There is a large blue bin in front of the main office
of the school where you can drop off all items. Spend $5 dollars in the
dollar store and drop it off in the bin. We are looking for:
- Spider Webs – many of these
- Black plastic dollar store Table Cloths – many of these

2. PERSONAL
AND/OR CORPORATE DONTATIONS: We are
always looking for gift donations that we can use as prizes or raffles during
the Halloween Howl. If you or your company would like to
donate a prize or gift to be used as one of our prizes during the event please
contact us at clairleacouncil@gmail.com.
3. HOME
MADE CANDY JARS/BAGS:
We need many candy jars to be used as prizes for the Lollipop Pull
room. You can help by filling any sized jar or little baggy with (nut
free) candy and bring it to the school office anytime between now and the
Halloween Howl. The more jars we have the longer this room will be able
to stay open and it is definitely one of the favourite rooms. In past
years we have needed approximately 400 jars/bags to have this room open for the
entire event. Feel free to decorate your jars as well.
4. HALLOWEEN
CANDY: We need peanut free Halloween candy to be used
as prizes in various rooms. Please pick up a bag of candy and drop it off
in the blue bin in front of the main office.
MOVIE NIGHT… (NOVEMBER 21ST)
We are pleased to announce that we have scheduled our first movie night of the
year and we will be featuring “How To Train Your Dragon 2”. The movie
will take place in the gym on Friday November 21st at 7:00pm
sharp. Entrance is $2 per person (child or adult) and the movie is
available to children grade six and under. Children must be accompanied
by a responsible adult. Popcorn and drinks will be available for sale
during the movie. We encourage children to come in pajamas and bring
blankets and pillows if they like and get comfortable in the gym for a fun
family night.
DID YOU KNOW…
1. The
most common item in the lost and found is a sweater or a lunch bag.
Having a label on your child’s belongings makes it much easier to find it in
the lost and found!
2. It is
illegal as well as a safety hazard to park on Rosalind Crescent at anytime –
even for just a few seconds to pick up your child!
HOW TO REACH US…
If you would like to unsubscribe to this email (we hope you don’t) or
know someone that would like to be added to the distribution list please send a
request to clairleacouncil@gmail.com. We would like to hear your
feedback and suggestions. If you are not able to come to the next meeting
and want to contribute ideas please email them to us or drop a note in the
council box in the office and we can bring them forward to the
meeting.
You
can contact us via email at clairleacouncil@gmail.com, on the blog at http://clairleacouncil.blogspot.com,
or have a look at our bulletin board outside the office for the latest news.
