Park Cleanup Saturday

Saturday April 21 is the Ward 35 Earth Day Park Clean Up - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Edge Park (the park right behind Clairlea PS) and Clairlea Park (the big one east of Pharmacy, north of St. Clair, where the tennis courts are) - also Horton Park, Maywood Park, Regents Park, Lucy Tot Park, Kitchener Park, Dunlop Park, Corvette Park, Madelaine Park, Danforth Gardens Park and Raleigh Park.

Please come and volunteer your time to help clean up the winter debris. (Wait, did we have winter? anyway I guess there's still debris.)

Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. In fact, Councillor Berardinetti is looking for volunteers to help sign people in and hand out gloves and garbage bags at both Edge Park and Clairlea Park, so if you are interested in taking on this role, please contact Joanne at 416-392-0213 or jfusill@toronto.ca

Rain or shine.

Connection between reading and empathy

In this TVO Parents video, York University researcher Raymond Mar explains that reading to children improves their ability to empathize. Apparently, stories encourage children to put themselves in others' shoes, and to empathize with them. It's also helpful for parents to talk with the children about the story and especially the emotional states of the characters in the story.

The study also looked at children's television and movies, and found that movies were better for encouraging empathy than children's television, possibly because families are more likely to watch them together and to discuss them.
